Analytical/Bioanalytical/ADME scientists (all levels including Team Leader)

Domainex has vacancies for talented laboratory-based analytical/bioanalytical chemists who are qualified to PhD or with BSc/MSc level in chemistry, life sciences or biochemistry with post-graduate analytical industry experience to support analysis and purification of synthetic molecules and bioanalysis from in vitro ADME studies.   The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of analytical method and assay development, have hands-on experience of mass spectrometry and handling of microtitre plate-based samples.

Computational Chemist

Domainex has positions available for experienced computational chemists during an exciting time as a we embark upon significant enhancement of our CADD capabilities.   The ideal candidates will be qualified to PhD level or a B.Sc/M.Sc. degree in a life science and be highly-skilled in small-molecule and protein modelling and chemoinformatics approaches applicable to drug discovery.  Experience in an industrial drug-discovery setting is strongly preferred.  Applicants should have hands on experience of applying a wide range of computational tools and techniques, including structure based and ligand-based design and virtual screening.  This role will operate a cross-discipline matrix environment and a knowledge of drug discovery processes and appreciation of key concepts from collaborating disciplines such as medicinal chemistry and biophysics is essential.

Med Chem Associate Director and Group leader

Applications are invited from talented and experienced medicinal chemists with prior experience of line management for the role of Medicinal Chemistry Associate Director and Group leader.  You will hold a Ph.D. or a B.Sc/M.Sc. degree in organic or medicinal chemistry supported by a proven track record and delivery across hit identification, hit-to-lead and lead optimisation projects in large pharma or the biotech sector.  You will have an extensive knowledge of synthetic and medicinal chemistry and a thorough understanding of DMPK, toxicology and biology concepts in order to make key decisions for drug design. The role will involve significant interaction with external customers and will require excellent communication, good inter-personal skills and the ability to clearly summarise and present scientific results and ideas.

As this is a leadership position, previous experience of management of teams or groups is essential along with demonstrable experience of working with cross-discipline teams to successfully drive drug discovery projects.

Analytical Chemists

As an analytical scientist, you will be responsible for working with an established internal team to solve problems and deliver results for client projects.  A key element for this role this to support the growing chemistry department of currently 40 synthetic and medicinal chemists to maintain and repair Waters mass spectrometers, mass directed preparative instruments and to assist with challenging purification and chiral analysis/separation. Experience in this area is ideal, however, training will be given for candidates that have been identified with the appropriate technical skills to maintain and repair equipment.

In addition you will be part of an expanding analytical/bioanalytical team and will work at the interface between chemistry and biology, analysing samples prepared from a variety of biological matrices.  You will contribute to several different projects, across the whole drug discovery spectrum from Hit Identification to Lead Optimisation.

You will have experience in protein expression (E.coli, insect and/or mammalian), expression optimisation, protein purification optimisation and scale up to multi mg scale for structural analysis, protein QC. You will have demonstratable experience using a range of AKTA chromatography equipment and columns. Experience in protein crystallisation or CryoEM would be a plus.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, a quick learner, good communicator, equally comfortable to work independently and as part of a team, have good problem-solving skills, and be able to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team and on multiple projects whilst maintaining high quality throughout.

Domainex has a permanent vacancy for a highly organised individual ideally with a degree in a biology or chemistry discipline and prior experience of preparing technical documents in the drug discovery arena.

Laboratory Technician

Due to expansion of our operation, Domainex is seeking a Lab technician. The successful applicant will be responsible for compound shipping and tracking and will support our Lab Coordinator in the smooth day-to-day running of laboratory operations at our chemistry facility at Chesterford Research Park, near Cambridge.

We are seeking a highly organised individual, who will be expected to have strong people-oriented skills and have an ability to communicate effectively with both scientists and non-scientists.  An aptitude to identify and implement efficient working practices is required. A previous experience gained from the life science sector would be advantageous, but full training will be provided as required.

This full-time role will report to the Laboratory Coordinator or Laboratory and Facilities Manager.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Receipt and dispatch of materials from clients or other CROs to the relevant chemist(s)
  • Accurate weighing out of final small molecule compounds for secondary assays (internal and external providers)
  • Organisation of regular shipments of small molecule compounds to client, external CROs as well as to the Domainex Iconix site:
    • Courier booking and gathering of the relevant paperwork depending on the recipient and country of destination
    • Shipment tracking and follow-up to deal with potential problems at customs
  • Follow established protocols to tracking of final small molecule compound amounts and update of the internal corporate inventory
  • Registration of compound libraries in the Domainex  database
  • Support for our Lab Coordinator through ensuring appropriately stocked laboratory supplies, glass washing service, managing Goods In with procurement activities and making standard stock solutions.

Requirements

Assay Biologist

Domainex has a laboratory-based vacancy for a PhD level scientist (or BSc/MSc with relevant post-graduate experience) qualified in a biological discipline, with working experience in the biochemistry and/or biophysics fields.  The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience.  

The ideal candidate will have practical experience with a range of screening techniques across cell biology or biochemical methods in microtitre plate format (e.g. cell viability assays, ELISAs, fluorescence polarisation).  The post also requires an individual with a sound knowledge of molecular pharmacology; however, additional training will be provided to broaden your skill set.  The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, a quick learner, have good problem-solving skills, and be able to work effectively in a team. Candidates that have experience of preparing technical proposals and have a track record of building and deploying assay systems are particularly sought.

Head of Computational Chemistry

Applications are invited from talented and experienced computational chemists to establish and lead Domainex’s computational chemistry department.

The candidate will be a leader in the computational field providing strategic direction to drug discovery projects. The remit of the role will be to expand the computational group, however, in the short term the role will require a degree of ‘hands-on’ relevant experience. Previous experience of management of teams is desirable.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work within multi-disciplinary project teams and provide insight into the future drug discovery project direction and work closely with medicinal chemists and biologist to solve key project challenges.
  • Working with several clients to agree and implement project strategy, with responsibility for the day-to-day reporting and communication of project progress to the clients.
  • Manage the relationship with existing computational consultants and ensure project delivery.
  • Build a computational chemistry team for the future, ensuring scientific excellence by mentoring and line-managing computational scientists with varying experience levels.
  • Ensure delivery of client projects and provision of expert computational chemistry support to the medicinal chemistry team (currently 40 chemists)
  • Work closely with protein and structural biology groups to assist with protein structure determination.
  • Liaise with the biology team to assess druggability of protein targets to facilitate target selection.
  • Develop innovative solutions and workflows for the computational and medicinal chemistry teams.
  • Implementation of machine learning and AI workflows into the computational and drug design process.
  • Support the business development team by providing technical input and securing new business for Domainex.
  • Play an active role as a member of the chemistry leadership team, using your knowledge to contribute to growing the department and influencing R&D and company strategy.

You will hold a PhD or a BSc/MSc degree in computational chemistry or natural sciences, supported by a proven track record and delivery of projects to assist in the drug discovery projects across hit identification, hit-to-lead and lead optimisation projects in large pharma, biotech or CRO sectors.  You will have an extensive knowledge of computational chemistry. A thorough understanding of drug discovery and biology concepts would be advantageous in order to make key decisions for multidisciplinary drug discovery project teams. The role will involve significant interaction with external customers and the successful candidate will have excellent communication and inter-personal skills along with the ability to clearly summarise and present scientific results and ideas.
