Analytical /Bioanalytical Group Leader/Head of Function

Applications are invited from talented and experienced analytical chemists with prior experience of line management for the role of Analytical/Bioanalytical group leader.  You will hold a PhD or a BSc/MSc degree in chemistry or natural sciences, supported by a proven track record and delivery of projects to assist in the drug discovery projects across hit identification, hit-to-lead and lead optimisation projects in large pharma, biotech or CRO sectors.  You will have an extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry and bioanalytical project support. A thorough understanding of DMPK and biology concepts would be advantageous in order to make key decisions for multidisciplinary drug discovery project teams. The role will involve significant interaction with external customers and the successful candidate will have excellent communication and inter-personal skills along with the ability to clearly summarise and present scientific results and ideas.

As this is a leadership position, previous experience of management of teams or groups is essential along with demonstrable experience of working with cross-discipline teams to successfully drive drug discovery projects. The remit of the role will be to expand the department, however, in the short term the role will require a degree of ‘hands-on’ relevant experience.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Line-manage analytical and bioanalytical scientist of varying experience levels to deliver client projects and provision of expert analytical chemistry support to the medicinal chemistry team (currently 40 chemists)
  • Working with several clients to agree and implement project strategy and responsibility for the day-to-day reporting and communication of project progress to the clients
  • Providing leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams and provision of insight to the future project direction
  • Support the business development team to assist in securing new business for Domainex
  • Play a key role in the growth of the analytical and bioanalytical team

Director of Business Development

Domainex is a highly respected, award-winning, rapidly growing and profitable drug discovery service company based near Cambridge, UK. The company is privately owned and is approaching its 20th anniversary of incorporation. We work with a growing number of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, patient foundations and charities globally to provide protein expression, assay development, screening, structural biology and various chemistry services across the target-to-pre-clinical drug candidate value chain. We have a highly skilled and experienced multi-disciplinary team of 70 biologists and chemists.  We have established a strong reputation in the market for providing innovative outcomes to our partners.

To support our growth plans at this exciting stage in the company’s progression, we are seeking to appoint a new Director of Business Development.

The successful applicant will operate across the life science market in Europe and North America, ideally being based in the south east of England (but consideration will be given to applicants from other parts of the UK and elsewhere). We are looking for the following attributes:

  • Educated to at least Bachelor’s degree level in chemistry or biology
  • Previous hands-on experience of working in the life science sector in a laboratory-based role is desirable
  • A good understanding of the small-molecule drug discovery process
  • You will have already developed a successful career in sales 
  • Knowledge of how to prospect for new opportunities
  • Ability to manage a pipeline at various stages of the sales cycle on a day-to-day basis

The Director of Business Development will be responsible for the full sales cycle, from initial introductions to winning new contracts. You will be expected to promote our entire service offering. Our chosen candidate will be expected to work closely with colleagues in the Commercial and Operational departments at Domainex. Analytical/Bioanalytical/ADME scientists (all levels including Team Leader)

Domainex has vacancies for talented laboratory-based analytical/bioanalytical chemists who are qualified to PhD or with BSc/MSc level in chemistry, life sciences or biochemistry with post-graduate analytical industry experience to support analysis and purification of synthetic molecules and bioanalysis from in vitro ADME studies.   The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of analytical method and assay development, have hands-on experience of mass spectrometry and handling of microtitre plate-based samples.

The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience.  In addition to proven analytical skills, Domainex is particularly interested in hearing from applicants with experience in mammalian cell culture and protein analysis.  For consideration as a Team Leader, candidates must also have proven project management experience and prior supervisory/line management experience and perspectives on process enhancement.

Senior Biophysicist – Part-Time or Full-Time Option

Domainex has a laboratory-based vacancy for a PhD level scientist (or BSc/MSc with relevant post-graduate experience) qualified in a biological discipline, with working experience in the biophysics fields.  The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience.   This is a permanent position and consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work on either a part-time (3-4 days per week) or full-time (5 days per week) basis to join our growing team. 

Domainex are actively expending their biophysics offerings and are looking for enthusiastic individuals to grow our team. The ideal candidate will have expert practical experience in one biophysical technique and sound knowledge in a range of biophysical assay methods, such as thermal shift, SPR, microscale thermophoresis.  The post also requires an individual with a sound knowledge of molecular pharmacology; however, additional training will be provided to broaden your skill set.  The successful candidate will be a quick learner, have good problem-solving skills, and be able to work effectively in a team. Candidates that have experience of preparing technical proposals and have a track record of building and deploying assay systems are particularly sought.   

Role and Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Experience in developing and carrying out Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), ITC or NMR assays to characterise protein-small molecule interactions ideally in a drug discovery environment

  • Demonstrated capability of independently and successfully managing multiple projects at any given time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good team player, attention to detail, good time management

Desired additional capabilities:

  • Knowledge and/or experience of other biophysical techniques (SPR, MST, DSF, ITC, NMR)
  • Experience of developing and performing biochemical assays in microtitre plate format

Computational Chemist

Domainex has one position available for an experienced computational chemist during an exciting time as a we embark upon significant enhancement of our CADD capabilities.   The ideal candidate will be qualified to PhD level or a B.Sc/M.Sc. degree in a life science and be highly-skilled in small-molecule and protein modelling and chemoinformatics approaches applicable to drug discovery.  Experience in an industrial drug-discovery setting is strongly preferred.  Applicants should have hands on experience of applying a wide range of computational tools and techniques, including structure based and ligand-based design and virtual screening.  This role will operate a cross-discipline matrix environment and a knowledge of drug discovery processes and appreciation of key concepts from collaborating disciplines such as medicinal chemistry and biophysics is essential.

  • Application of problem-solving ability through a combination of personal knowledge of computational techniques with the desire to seek-out and apply novel and innovative solutions from the wider literature to help progress customer projects
  • Run virtual screening (both structure and ligand-based) and select compounds for purchase
