October 2026 saw Domainex attend the annual ELRIG Drug Discovery conference, hosted at the Excel in London. ELRIG Drug Discovery is a leading conference in Europe, which is attended by many different CROs, biotechs, pharmaceutical manufacturing companies and more. The conference offers a chance for scientists to present their new and innovative research, discuss ideas, and explore new and exciting drug discovery collaborations.

Domainex staff were involved in the event at all levels; from volunteering as Red Shirts, conveying our science through posters and talks, and also exploring potential collaboration opportunities at our Domainex booth (right). In total, we had 16 attendees across the disciplines of medicinal research, and at all levels of experience.

Our Volunteers

Domainex is proud to host a number of talented apprentices and scientists who were volunteering as ‘red shirts’ at the event, performing duties such as helping with registrations, guiding delegates around the event space, and participating in workshops, such as ‘mini-DD’ for early career professionals (ECPs). Two of our volunteers, Chloe Eeles, and  Rose Bigley also gave poster presentation outlining different areas of our work, including our PureDisc™ platform and our fragment-based drug discovery workflow which can be applied to RNA drug discovery.

Whilst the red shirts were ensuring the event was running to plan, Senior Scientist I Alicia Overall, was performing her duties as a member of the ECP workgroup. Such responsibilities included interviewing members, delegates, and speakers about their ELRIG experience, while also judging the Kirsty Smitten award and ECP poster prize.

Our Speakers

Domainex brought two speakers to the event – Nadine Myers, a Senior Scientist I in the bioassay group and Philip Rawlins, a group leader in bioassay. Whilst, Nadine co-chaired one of the sessions of talks – the ‘Next-gen biophysics’ session which took place on Wednesday.  Philip Rawlins gave a technology spotlight talk in the Exhibition Theatre, titled: ‘When One Technique Isn’t Enough: Integrated Approaches to Complex Targets’. This talk is an overview of Domainex’s biophysical assay platform and how our scientists employ multiple different biophysical techniques to give a full picture, allowing the understanding of even the most complicated target-ligand interactions.

Our Poster Presenters

A number of the Domainex team presented posters outlining many different aspects of our work, ranging from our ever-evolving direct-to-biology (D2B) approach to case studies showcasing our covalent inhibitor services and our membrane protein production platform: PureDisc™. Staff members of all levels of seniority and experience took the opportunity to present the following posters:

‘Building a Fragment-Based Drug Discovery Workflow for RNA targets’
- Rose Bigley (poster #40)

‘Bringing Proteins Together: From Glue Identification to Mechanistic Understanding’
 - James Craswell (poster #80)

‘A Detergent-Free Platform for Stabilising and Characterising Multi-Pass Membrane Proteins in Polymer Nanodiscs’
- Chloe Eeles (poster #103)

‘Characterisation of reversible and irreversible covalent inhibitors using an LC-MS based covalent fragment screening workflow’
- Jason Pembroke (Poster #258)

‘Redefining Direct-to-Biology Through Integrated Multistep Medicinal Chemistry’
- Robyn Presland (Poster #267)

Finally, a few of our more senior scientists, leadership & BD team were occupying the Domainex stand, networking and exploring potential opportunities with other exhibitors and delegates from a wide array of different companies. Team members included: Hayley French (CEO), Ray Boffey (CCO), Andrew Ratcliffe (CSO), Emma Alexander (Lead generation scientist), Trevor Askwith (Head of Biology), and Nick Bland (Group leader). If you spoke to a member of our team at the event, or would like to hear more about how Domainex can help accelerate your drug discovery programmes, please reach out to enquiries@Domainex.co.uk.

Thoughts on the Event Overall:

‘I had the privilege of representing Domainex as part of the red shirt volunteering team at ELRIG and this allowed me to connect with others in a similar career position and share some of the exciting work which we have been completing for the PureDisc platform. The event was a great experience to be part of and I was lucky to have attended’
- Chloe Eeles, Apprentice at Domainex

‘It was my first time attending/volunteering at ELRIG Drug Discovery and I really enjoyed the experience. The Mini DD on the day before the main conference started I found particularly useful as an ECP and it also gave me the opportunity to connect with some other ECP's. Volunteering at the event was a good way for me to attend the talks I wanted to, whilst also being able to help run the event!’
- Jude Griggs, Apprentice at Domainex

‘Drug Discovery allows us to interact with various members of the scientific community, it is always a great event to catch up with past colleagues and clients but crucially it allows new connections to be made. I was able to engage in conversations about the new technologies, science and companies in the breakthrough zone, discussing the rapidly developing scientific landscape.’
- Emma Alexander, Lead Generation Scientist at Domainex

‘Drug Discovery is always a key conference date for us at Domainex, and this was particularly poignant marking 20 years of the conference. So, it was great hearing the keynote talks reflecting on not only 20 years of ELRIG but as drug discovery as a whole. Listening to Sam Barrel on Day 1 bringing the science, patients and medicine together was impactful, as scientists it brought home the significance of our work and how it can change patients lives and their families.’
- Trevor Askwith, Head of Biology at Domainex

Finally, we would like to give a huge thanks to ELRIG for organising such a friendly, insightful and collaborative event. ELRIG Drug Discovery is certainly a highlight of the conference calendar. Until next year…
